William Gilling

William Gilling is believed to have been born in Bridgwater between 1805 and 1810.

In 1851 William is living at Ropers Lane, Bridgwater with his wife Sarah and children Elizabeth, five and Richard, six months. His recorded occupation was that of porter to corn merchant and his age stated as 35

The 1881 census Places William and his wife at Preeces Buildings, Albert Street, Bridgwater; William was recorded as 70 years old. Also in the same property is their daughter Sarah J Board and her two children Charlotte, one and an unnamed 1 month old infant. Intriguingly, Charlotte has a recorded birthplace of Aberdeen.

The census also records that Sarah was deaf and that John's occupation was that of general labourer.
