John Gould

(1829 - ????)

John Gould was born as the third child of Mary and John Gould. He was baptised at All Saints church, North Molton, Devon on 28 September 1829.

A further child Susan, was baptised at All Saints church on 01 December 1834.

John was not with his parents at the time of the 1841 census. The census record will need to be rechecked as whilst a John Gould, aged 12 was found in North Molton, his precise location and other householder details were not transcribed

In the same census John's brother was also away from the home. His parents and sisters were living at Bridge Street, North Molton.

John's father died on 20 November 1843 and was buried at All Saints Parish church on 26 November 1843. The death was registered by John's mother Mary who was present at the death.

John's brother George died at the age of 25 and was buried at All Saints church on 29.10.1848.

At the time of the 1851 census John was recorded as 21 and working as an agricultural labourer on the farm of William Lock of South Radworthy Village. The next property in the census contained the Purchase family who were also farmers. Their 19 year old unmarried daughter was called Jane Gould Purchase and there was also a 9 month old child named Charles Gould.

Further information concerning John has yet to be found. There is a North Molton John Gould in the 1881 census but a firm connection can not yet be established. The earlier 1851 census details will also require clarification.
