Leonard Barber

(1898 - ????)

Leonard Barber was born to parents John and Alice Barber in Bridgwater, Somerset. The GRO indexes identify that his birth was registered in June quarter 1898 (ref 5c 343).

At the time of the 1901 census, Leonard's family were living at 75 Friarn Street, Bridgwater. Leonard who would have been two or three years old was not with them.

Leonard's father was taking part in the Boer War in 1901. His attestation papers record various personal information, including details of his children. Leonard is recorded as having been born in Bridgwater on 06.04.98 and Baptised in Bridgwater on 05.05.1899. It should be noted however, John's father often provided inaccurate dating information.

The same document records next of kin and whilst all other of Leonard's brothers were recorded, Leonard was not. It possible that Leonard died as a young child.

Leonard was the fifth born in what became a large family, he had the following brothers and sisters.

1888 John Henry (Dyer) 1909 Herbert Henry J
1890 Jane 1911 Leslie*
1892 Clifford 1912 Joel
1895 Francis 1914 Glad
1900 Stanley Watson W
1903 Alfred
1905 Maggie (Meg)

It is believed that Leonard and Leslie all died as babies.
